Yes, Chattanooga's aquarium is better than Atlanta's where I now live.
And you must "SEE ROCK CITY" at least once in your life. If you go to lookout mountain, it is worth riding The Incline (one time)
and walk over to see Point Park for the Battle above the Clouds. You can NOT walk from the incline to ruby falls.
You might see if someone can get some local discount coupons.
The Glassblowing Studio downtown near the aquarium was worth the walk.
Also see the Moon Pie General Store.
The antique Fuller Gun Collection in the Chickamauga Battlefield Museum
had the only blunderbuss I've ever seen. There are monuments all up and down Missionary ridge. But that's it, just monuments.
In October it is often too cold for rafting but there are several
cave tours
in the area. The Lost Sea is not mentioned because it's about 45 minutes north of the city.
Ruby Falls is OK but it is recycled water. I wouldn't take anyone.
I am a history buff and it's almost too far to drive more than two hours, one way, to get north of Knoxville to the
Museum of Appalachia, but we spent almost all day at their several most
interesting museums I've ever been in at one site. (musical instruments, toys, log cabins, tools)
If the leaves are anywhere near their fall color peak, it's nice to see Signal Mountain's park overlooking the grand canyon of the Tennessee,
but it's a bit of a drive and there is nothing else to see up there unless you think taking the "W" road hair pin, one car at a time,
three switchbacks is your kind of driving. No, it's not the
"Tail of the Dragon"
Hwy 129 with 318 curves in 11 miles. The dragon’s tail is a full day trip to get there, drive it and come back.
If you are into nature there is still the Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center.
But it's been a long time since I was there and I don't know how well it has been kept up.
It's a shame that the national knife museum and the Dragon museum are now both closed, but there are still a few other
museums worth visiting in the city.
