From Kathie Wilson Torres ‘63
Calling all ‘63 Bitburg Baron classmates. We are not getting any younger, so I am hoping we can make a good showing at our BHS reunion
in Rockland Maine this October 2-5, 2022 at the Tradewinds.
October is the perfect time to visit the coast of Maine: the fall colors, seafood, LLBean@Freeport, the many lighthouses along the coast.

When you land in Portland, drive north on I-295 on the way to Rockland.
Get off in Freeport at Exit 22, Mallett Drive. Go to Main Street, turn right 2 blocks
and you’ll see LL Bean, lots of outlet shops and places to eat.
The main store of LL Bean is on your left and is full of clothing, both casual/outdoor wear,
shoes, slippers, and any kind of camping, hiking items you can think of.
They have a Home Store right next to the main LL Bean, with kitchen items and some furniture downstairs.
Towels, bedding and blankets are upstairs. I love their flannel sheets.
They do free monogramming while you wait on any item. Monogrammed canvas or nylon bags & backpacks,
make a wonderful gifts. I think they mail it to your home address, but you might check to make sure.
And don’t forget to take your picture by the BIG LL Bean boot outside.
It truly is worth a visit if you’ve never been.

We are having a group lobster night, but not to take anything away from Rockland, there are several of my fav places
if you go a little further south near Kittery and Wells and Ogunquit—all along the coast. (Take I-95 south and then when you get to Wells or Ogunquit
get off and go east towards water and get on Route 1.
Bob’s Clam Hut is the best place I know if you like Fried Clams, fried scallops, lobster roll, etc. it’s right next to the Kittery Trading Post
(big sporting goods store).
|
|
|
Also in Kittery is Warren’s @ 11 Water St, it right on the water and you can eat lobster, etc. outside on their deck
if it’s a nice day, they also have a very nice salad bar.
(FYI- my dad worked there back in the ‘40s).
|
|
|
Another spot, in Ogunquit, very scenic, is Perkins Cove, there’s another seafood place there.
|
|
|
Maine Diner on Rt 1 in Wells, Maine, has the biggest and best blueberry muffins you have ever eaten.
|
|
Of course, there are several lighthouses to visit but my favorite is the Nubble in York, Maine,
and the best ice cream with any flavor you could think of right up the road.
I think I have a picture of it, I’ll try and send to you….in Messenger.
And then there Freeport Maine where LL Bean is — it’s a neat place to visit.
